Collateral Damage

Carelessness leads to losses
much that we can't handle
genocides, or mass murders
souls we've yet to account for
what good is good when intent has no face to alter
our neglect reflects every aspect of our value for respect
we grope hope till it elopes into its deeper meaning and floats
away in dismay halfway astray
we are the cause despite the laws we've fashioned
to protect the helpless across the atlas
& blur the harshness of reality with eros and compassion
through mediocre lies,
we build bridges for conquest
amidst fears we kindle in our brothers
we speak of democracy to bury sins
we call for retribution to wounds
we tore open in the wars for freedom
and lest we can't remember names
we label lives lost as
